LAURYN’S BIO PAGE
ARTIST STATEMENT, Iwana Cairo
“I am a beginner artist and I am self taught. After trying out different type of mediums, I found that acrylic paint is good to practice with. This is because right now I am learning and experimenting. I plan to open up my box of oil pant, in do time.
I used different pictures as reference for both pieces, including pictures of myself. I try to do portraits of people I know. I like to recognize a piece of me in a portrait.
Before and After: In this piece, I’m portraying a woman, using a moment for herself. Using that moment to prepare for, or to let go. Where the outside meets and leaves you.
Hi-top, black hair in a box: In this piece I’m portraying a black woman, beautiful and proud. Naked when it comes to her beauty. No make up, no real hairstyle and a sloppy crown. I started out wanting to create exactly the opposite. These artworks are made independently. While enjoying creating art, my main goal is to get better. I am looking for ways to enroll for an art program/school (30+). There is so much to learn!”
