I'm 48 and have never put anything on my face and I don't know where to start. I think my skin type is normal but I'm not sure. Is it ok for me to follow your anti aging routine or should I look for products according to my skin type?

I'm re-watching this because I'm going down another skincare rabbit hole. My new mini-obsession is Caroline Hirons. She is on youtube and blogs and I just loooove her. She and Stephanie Nicole just sold me on P50 1970 Lotion which is apparently supposed to CHANGE MY LIFE so I'm just drumming my fingers waiting for it to get here. Have you tried P50?

I have been hearing promising things about over the counter retinol continuing to improve. Some studies are showing newer products on the market are as effective as Rx so there may not be a need to go all out.

I’m still trying to work this out. I’ve used 3 step skin care since my tween years, though it was Noxzema, Sea Breeze and my moms Olay then. I eventually graduated to cleanser, serum, moisturizer or Super City Block Sheer worn as a tinted moisturizer during the day. I love to layer but I’m experimenting with some new products.

I’m 42 as well, am prone to bursting into flames in direct sunlight, have gotten sun poisoning within the first hour outside every single time I’ve gone to Florida or California (despite wearing SPF 9000), I have sensitive skin and inherited my moms mild rosacea that seems to flare up more due to products.

I’ve been using products with lactic acid for years with no problem and some masks and moisturizers that contain glycolic but it’s incredibly hit or miss. There are few glycolic products I can use. I recently tried to add FAB’s 10% AHA serum and had a mild but good flare up on the sides of my face. I think I’m going to try it one more time but reduce it to a few drops, as opposed to a full pump as directed, and cut it with a light but effective moisturizer.

I also recently purchased FAB’s beginner/sensitive 0.25% retinol and am having no issues with it. I’m using it every 3-4 days, building up slowly and using FAB’s cream cleanser, ultra repair face moisturizer and ultra repair hydrating serum with it. All are free of scent, dyes, etc. I’m trying to reduce the risk of interactions and all of the FAB products I picked up have 4-5 star ratings and are supposed to be good for sensitive beginners.

Perhaps I’ll work out the AHA situation soon. I can and do use a glycolic mask by Farmhouse Fresh called Pudding Appeal. Several say you’re not supposed to use anything in a jar or container that is exposed to air or light because it reduces effectiveness but you have to go with what works. Perhaps that is what makes it tolerable for others.

Hi Stephanie! You know I love your videos. I was watching this one and I saw that you use the serum before the Retinoid or acids. Since we have to go from the thinnest to the thicker consistency, wouldn’t the serum come last before the moisturizer? xoxo

Thanks for this! I'm trying a sample of the good genes and I love it! Have you tried any of the acids from
Skin medica like the glypro or bha/aha cream? Just curious how they might compare…

I think this might be my very first YT comment ever. I was wondering if you applied any of your anti-aging products before or after your prescription Finacea when you were using it? I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate my Finacea 15% foam prescription into my night routine. I figured I would use it at my exfoliant step after cleansing and hydrate toning, but I'm not sure if I should immediately go to a moisturizer or if my anti-aging products would be wasted trying to layer them after the Finacea.

I can't believe I'm only commenting on this now but here I am, loving it! I use an Rx strength Retin-A, glycolic acid and salicylic acid but I've never tried lactic acid. I somehow have in my mind that lactic acid is a weaker type of acid similar to glycolic acid and so I shrugged it off thinking why would I use that when I use glycolic acid? I've seen several youtubers I love (you included!) that like lactic acid. Can you tell me how it would help my skin if I'm already using all these acids? I understand if you're too busy so maybe another viewer can answer?

I am just waiting for your channel to blow up. You are so great, I think it's just a matter of time until your channel gets huge. It's like you have your finger right on the pulse of the type of content I want, a woman in my early forties who still loves all things beauty related but can't always relate to the younger (but also super great!) youtubers. Thank you!

Very interesting products! The only product I know is the Pixi glow tonic which I’m a fan of too! So, you haven’t tried Retin-A yet? Big fan over here! Works better than any acids or retinols! 😉❤️

Would LOVE to hear about your anti inflammatory food plan for Rosacea. I do something similar (no sugar, no dairy, no gluten when I am "on my game'). Just switched to organic meats. What has been your experience with grains? Corn? Soy? Just looking to see what works for others. Sometimes I feel like nutrition can be a landmine, so I understand if you don't want to address. Might be fun for us to see a what you eat in a day type video. Cheers Stephanie:)

Love, love, love GG!!! I can not be without it, think I'm onto my 5th or 6th bottle 😬💸 I have tried many other lactic acid treatments, but I haven't found any that work as well for my skin!

I am combination skin as well with rosacea! I'm so glad to see tns essential serum in your routine for am as I'm getting the recovery complex soon (actually can help rosacea by reducing inflammation). It's the worst dealing with surface dehydration from rosacea by having some oily skin! I find avene thermal water really helps that and I mist throughout the day (by patting in to avoid further dehydration haha!). I've heard skinbetter Alto is good for rosacea. I'll be trying that soon!!

I love Clinique's "Take the Day Off." (I use the little stick version if i just need to change my eyeshadow or mascara mid day.) I have tried other balms and really like the Farmacy balm but cost per ounce Clinique is still less expensive.

I bought the ordinary's version of finecia but everytime I use it I seem to have a small breakout. Is this common? I don't remember it doing that w my rx finecia. But it has been a while. Curious if anyone else had this experience?

    Lora Oliver says:

Great video! The Clinique cleansing balm works great for my drier skin as a first cleanse, too. 👍👍. This question may sound odd, but does this unscented balm have a scent to you? 😝 I don't know how to describe it without being critical! I wish it had a pleasant "unscented" smell, like other unscented cleansers, you know? 😏

Sounds like some great products to try one day when my other supplies run out. Your skin is looking radiant and nourished so it's working well for you. How is the job hunt going for you? I have been using the new "Estée Lauder Re Nutri Ultimate Lift" and I love it. My skin feels so soft and silky. I use either Estée or Lancome eye serums. I also use JoJoba on my eyelids after I remove eye shadows/makeup because my lids are allergic to most eyeshadows. This heals them and restores the smoothness. I have been trying Castor oil on my eye lashes and brows so time will tell. Afraid to try any of the eye lash growth products with my overly sensitive skin issues. I would love to try all the Retin A/Retinol products again but so far epic fail with face/eyes blowing up like a puffer fish. (used very tiny amounts) Perhaps I will try different brands in time. What we do to stay looking young. Some Men just wash their faces and plop into bed. 🙄 Thanks for the video.

The Pixi Glow I love it too, my skin seems to do alright with it, and also I always make sure any form of toner don't have Alcohol in it, don't need that LOL Love seeing skin care videos!!! I either find something new, or get ideas 🙂 Have a good week, love and blessings xoxo <3

Great video! I've been using Heimish All Clean Balm as a first cleanse lately and absolutely love it. The rest of my routine is similar to yours, except I alternate retinol serum (Skinmedica) with vitamin C (Obagi) at night, followed by moisturizer and some kind of oil.

  23. JBH
    JBH says:

Great video! Just a question about layering products–Should chemical exfoliants come after cleansing and not after serums? Just thinking if you are using Good Genes to exfoliate the skin isn't it also taking off your serum too? Would serums be more effective if you use them after you exfoliate? I always thought you layer from the lightest and most watery consistency to the heaviest and more occlusive products—so oils also go before moisturizers. Of course skincare is different for each person so this method must work for you well. Just wanted to know more about your thinking on layering products this way.

I am 45, with extremely dry skin. I have used sweet almond oil since the age of 3 underneath my moisturizer. This past year, I have switched out the sweet almond oil for a hyaluronic acid, with great success. I love it! I had starting wrinkling around my mouth (permanent ones), and my skin is now so plump and less dry that that has gone pretty well. I hardly wear make-up, and I only cleanse with water (in the morning), in the evening I just slap on my products. I can't even use water that much, I am so dry.

I don't normally comment on anything. I recently discovered your channel and I love it! I just turned forty two and I'm so thankful that you represent us so beautifully! Thank you 😉
